The weaver and the widow

Almost all of weaverbirds and 68 species live in Africa. Only few of them live in South Asia, Madagascar and southern Arabia. Many of them are similar to sparrows, but painted bright and colorful. Perhaps, none of the birds had not mastered this art of weaving nests, as weaverbirds. It is “weaving”, even knitting a specific pattern. Fiber, picked at random from plants, bird several times passes via the fingers into a loop and then takes the bill to the end of the “rope” and firmly tighten the loop.

These weaverbirds weave nests of males. Females only finish the interior of the house finished lining spherical “floor” soft materials and under the roof weave “ceiling” —apparently, additional protection (insulation) from the tropical sun. Each male weaves the nest for several females, and then leaves them, giving themselves to sit and feed in a cozy house offspring. Living in the savannas of the weaverbirds nests in trees in large colonies — up to a hundred nests on a single acacia or baobab tree.’ Each hanging on the end of the branch, and from a distance they all look like large fruits. Prevention of quarantine diseases of animals

FMD is an acute viral disease of animals (mainly cattle, goats, sheep and pigs), which also hurts people . characterized by intoxication and vesicular-erosive (bubble-ulcerative) lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral and nasal cavities, and skin of the interdigital folds.

Dogs, cats, horses, chickens, ducks, geese do not get sick but can carry the virus.

The causative agent of FMD is stored in the blood and meat of infected animals, is transmitted from one animal to another by contact, through contaminated feed and manure. The pathogen persists for a long time on the health products and litter. An important source of spread of the virus is animal manure, which in such cases should be burned or subjected to biothermal disinfection.

Prevention of foot and mouth disease based on preventing the flow of FMD virus in Schmallenberg disease management and the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The main reasons for the spread of FMD virus are: the virus introduction from dysfunctional disease entities, primarily in connection with illegal importation of animals, animal products Continue reading

The sources of natural radionuclides

Radionuclides affect all biological species regardless of their habitat and environment. But if the degree of exposure of wild animals applies to us only in part, the nuclides in the organism of domestic animals have the potential to become “property” of man.

The accumulation of radioactive substances in the body of a pet.

The main way that radioactive substances enter into the body of a pet is contaminated food and water. It is not excluded the penetration of radionuclides through the respiratory system and skin. The rate of accumulation of radioactive substances and their transition into their milk, meat, eggs and derived products depends on several factors:

the type, age and functional status of the animal;

physical and chemical properties of the radionuclide;

the time and intensity of exposure. Continue reading
